Can I use a COM port other than the ones listed?
Yes! Although the common ports are listed in the drop-down box, you can type in any port you like. For example, on Windows just choose COM1 and change the 1 to the number you need.
Can I use both the ''d-rats ''and the ''repeater'' applications on the same host?
Yes you can! Firstly configure the repeater application to correctly use your radio and to accept connections from the Internet. Secondly, configure the d-rats client to point to net:127.0.0.1:9000 instead of the serial port your radio is connected to. Port 9000 is the default port and can be change if so desired.
Troubleshooting
I get nothing but question marks from the radio
If you have a GPS-capable radio, turn that function off (even if you don't have a GPS attached). It forces the radio to 4800 baud and may cause other problems
What baud rate should I choose?
If you're using a mobile radio, choose 9600. If you're using a handheld, choose 38400.
The radio does not transmit when I try to send a message
There are a couple of possible reasons for this:
1. You don't have your COM port and/or baud rate set correctly 2. Your radio is not set for Automatic Data TX. This is off by default in most radios. Enable it in the DV set mode. 3. Make sure that GPS mode is disabled
